Who got it wrong?

It was announced yesterday that during the last quarter the British economy had contracted at twice the rate experts had forecast.

Many seemed to feel that this reflected badly on the government, others that it reflected badly on the economy.

Am I alone in thinking that it reflects badly on experts?

  1. There are two questions here: (1) Are you alone in your thinking, and (2) do recent events reflect badly on the experts.

We might need two different experts to answer these questions, plus an expert to advise us about selecting the right sort of experts to best answer such questions.

  2. And the only sure thing about any of them would be their invoice for the service...

  3. This is said to be a true story: Reputed Maths teacher at The Royal College, Curepipe Mauritius is working a problem on the board, gets an answer, this, checked on the Answer Page proves to be wrong. He has another go and gets a different answer, and this when checked is again shown to be wrong. He looks at the class and pronounces: My two answers are both right, the answer in the book is wrong.
